Transformation of the organization – Growth path for grid expansion
Westfalen Weser is an energy service provider in the East Westphalia region. By constructing and operating regional distribution networks for electricity, gas, and water, the company ensures a secure and future‑proof supply and actively engages in the generation and storage of renewable energy. In addition, this municipal enterprise develops and implements holistic energy and infrastructure solutions, including in the fields of heating and e‑mobility. With 1,200 employees across 23 locations, Westfalen Weser generates annual revenues of around €1 billion.
For its comprehensive organizational transformation, Westfalen Weser relied on the expertise and experience of UNITY. UNITY acted as both a driver and sparring partner for the overall project management. Its mandate also included ensuring the effectiveness of all measures, the delivery reliability of all stakeholders involved, and efficient communication between leadership and stakeholders throughout the project. To address overarching transformation topics, UNITY coordinated the cross‑departmental collaboration between IT, Finance, and HR. This integrated approach enabled a successful go‑live of the new organizational structure at the beginning of 2025.
Following the go‑live, UNITY developed a comprehensive steering concept for the measures of the subsequent transformation phase, ensuring that progress became transparent and visible to all stakeholders, including the executive board. Further priorities included analyzing interdepartmental dependencies and identifying areas requiring additional support. These needs were addressed through internal networking within Westfalen Weser as well as sparring and expert input from the UNITY network. Larger needs evolved into company‑wide initiatives, such as the “Process Management Restart” project. The collaboration was characterized by excellent teamwork, high trust, and close alignment.
